“Merrick” a female Golden Eagle photographed by Gordon MacPherson was spotted in Weardale. This huge bird of prey, with only the White-tailed Eagle larger in the UK. With its broad wings, it has a different outline to the smaller Buzzard.
Merrick was spotted flying through Weardale with a mob of ravens on her tail. She overnighted in an old quarry then moved on to her next spot.
